At just 15 years old, Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus has rewritten the record books of chess. The Turkish player crossed 2716 Elo on the live rating list, climbing to No. 26 in the world – the youngest in history to cross the 2700 barrier. His career consists of youngest-ever milestones: 2600 at 13 years, 2 months and 15 days; highest-rated player at ages 12, 13 and 14; youngest to enter the top 100, top 50 and top 20. Veteran grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, who peaked at 2820, has publicly backed Erdogmus to reach 2900. Erdogmus and 17-year-old Ediz Gürel represent a new Turkish generation aiming to copy India's chess development model. Yet risks around hype, burnout and weak-field rating inflation remain.
